Eighteen years ago, when Bud and I started , we made a conscious decision to devote our efforts to sharing our knowledge as much as to selling our books. We continued this in our print catalogs through 2005. Writing these biographies was a logical extension of that philosophy. For the four years (1997-2002) that I wrote biographies and ran the busines, it was challenging, educational and fun, but, in the final tally, more work than it was worth. I'd devoted an average of every other weekend for four years to this project and I had hoped that the biographies would generate interest in the books we sold and result in increased sales. Sadly, this was not the case. It was very difficult for me to leave these pages, but the need to make a living was always there. The effort that I had focused on these Illustrator pages was transferred to ImageS. I had no time to write full biographies, but maintained the site nonetheless. Also, please see "a special request" below.

On November 30 of 2005, I retired from and my time is again my own. I can't guarantee that I will spend it writing new biographies, but the possibility is much greater now than it has been for some time. I intend to continue publishing ImageS and if time allows, I'll post a new biography as the muse strikes.

July 2, 2006. The muse HAS struck! It's sad that it was prompted by the death of the artist. And it was easily the hardest biography I've done. Read about Alex Toth and find out why.

a special request:
This site will remain open and I am very willing to post illustrator biographies by other writers.
Contact me if you are interested.
